For several years, Pete’s Hobby Railway has been distributing an annual rail-oriented Calendar to its regular volunteers as my way of saying “thank you”. Topics in past years have been of PHR itself or of railway operations, past and present, in the Riverina area of NSW.
For the 2021 calendar year, I am proposing to offer the calendar to a wider audience as a trial fund-raiser to support the restoration to working order of PHR’s 1900 era Fowler steam locomotive. With a quoted commercial restoration cost of $98,000, PHR is considering various ways of funding this project. Already, in excess of $10,000 has been raised, but obviously a lot more is required, even if the project is “staged”.
PHR’s 2021 Calendar contains thirteen colour illustrations of scenes on the Railway, one for each month of the year plus a cover illustration.
The calendar is of A3 size (26.9cm wide by 40.4cm high), with a suitable colour photo on the top portion and the month’s calendar below. It is printed on thick 300 gsm paper (like card), with a white spiral binder at the top for easy turning, together with a hole for easy hanging.
Personal calendars are printed to order by retailer Harvey Norman at a normal charge of $39.95. However, Harvey Normal has a special reduced price for the days leading up to Christmas. Thus, for PHR to take advantage of the discounted price (and still make a few dollars for the Fowler fund), I would need to receive your order no later than this coming Thursday, 10th December.
PHR is offering the Calendar at $25.00 a copy, plus postage. For prospective purchasers residing close to PHR, personal collection would be possible, thus saving on the postage component.
For Australia-wide addresses, postage in a sturdy POSTpak Tough Bag is $13.85. This rather high cost is because of the size of the calendar rather than its weight/mass. Overseas postal costs would, unfortunately be considerably higher, but can be quoted on request.
Payment should be by Bank transfer to BSB 112-879 Account 004 234 058, including your name and suburb, together with the word Calendar. Please also email confirmation of your order to stationmaster@peteshobbyrailway.club and of course, don’t forget to include your full postal mailing address!
I’ll acknowledge your order by email when I receive it and also let you know when your order is posted which will not be until early to mid-January.
Certainly a calendar with a difference and one with a minimal circulation. It cannot be made available through retail outlets as this would minimise any return to the Fowler restoration fund.
Remember, closing date for orders is this coming Thursday, 10th December 2020.
Pete
