Progress Report 02

G’day,
Here is the next Progress Report – following close behind as I do not wish to send low quality images to record what has been happening.

The following images record the continuing progress…

2016-0478: Carriage Loaded

2016-0478: Carriage Loaded

2016-0478: Arrangements have been made for one of my four carriages to be modified to have operating brakes. One compartment (with the hand-brake, recovered many, many years ago from the terminal car of an NSWGR end-platform suburban set) will be for the use of the train guard and appropriately designated. Carriage No. 2 was chosen, for no particular reason, except that it was the easiest to grab hold of! The vehicle was loaded on Thursday 4/2, but was not delivered to K & H Engineering at Goulburn until several weeks later.

2016-0487: Road Base Laid

2016-0487: Road Base Laid

2016-0487: With the initial section of the r-o-w scraped clear, the road base laid and watered, it was now time to roll same so as to provide a hard surface suitable for ballasting. The rolling was done by Ben on Saturday 6/2.

2016-0574: Delivery of Metal Ballast

2016-0574: Delivery of Metal Ballast

2016-0574: The first (and only, so far) delivery of metal ballast took place on Monday 15/2 – this scene shows the first of 33 tonnes of the 20mm crushed ballast hitting the ground.

2016-1182: Spreading Metal Ballast

2016-1182: Spreading Metal Ballast

2016-1182: It was several weeks until Mario was able to deliver more rail and spend a little time on construction works. In this scene, the metal ballast in being spread to a depth of about 75mm.

Progress Report No. 3 will cover the delivery of the last sections of “set-track” and the commencement of track-laying.

Cheers.

  1. That green thing on the trailer looks like part of the old sightseeing train at Point Nepean National Park.
