In order to help out in the promotion of Junee as the “1870s railway town”, Pete, with the assistance of his volunteers, has undertaken to demonstrate Pete’s Hobby Railway over the 2018 Junee Rhythm n Rail Festival weekend — March 9-11, 2018.

We will be operating our fully restored 1915 Hunslet steam locomotive* and Ruston diesel locomotive throughout the weekend, providing plenty of opportunities for visitors to do some “train spotting” and to take photos or video of them in operation.

Visitors are most welcome to view, and photograph, Pete’s Hobby Railway in action during these hours, but only from the street.

Please note that under the provisions of the Rail Safety National Law 2012 (NSW), Peter is NOT permitted to allow the public on his property for closer inspection and/or train rides. However, excellent viewing is available from the street frontage.

See our FAQs for more information about this.

Pete’s Hobby Railway is located just on the outskirts of town on a property called “The Roses” in Wardle Street, Junee, NSW, Australia.

The simplest way to find Pete’s Hobby Railway is to follow the signs in town that point to the Junee Roundhouse Museum. Turn off the Olympic Highway onto Harold Street towards the Roundhouse. Wardle Street is the SECOND street on your right (note you’ll pass two laneways as well).

Pete’s Hobby Railway is the second last property on your left — you’ll easily see the railway and station from the street 🙂

You can find The Roses aka Pete’s Hobby Railway on Google Maps.

Limited parking will be available on the verge in front of Peter’s property. Please respect our neighbours and avoid blocking access to their properties.

Day of Total Fire Ban

or extreme temperatures
* If there is a day of Total Fire Ban declared in, or around, Junee on a scheduled Working or Operational Day, we will NOT be operating the Hunslet Steam Locomotive. However, we may elect to have it pushed (and pulled) along the track by the Ruston Diesel Locomotive, or placed in a location suitable for photos to be taken.

If the temperature is 30℃ or above on an Operational Day, we may elect to not operate the Hunslet Steam Locomotive. Again, we may use the diesel to push and pull it instead, or placed in a location suitable for photos to be taken.
