Pete’s Hobby Railway… as filmed by others!

The greater majority of the photographic images that have appeared in the various Progress and other Reports on this web page have originated from your truly. All this was to change last October! Two “outsiders” visited Pete’s Hobby Railway and have since released videos on to YouTube of what they saw.

Rhelffordd by Maikha Ly

In conjunction with the Junee Roundhouse 75th anniversary celebrations over last year’s October long weekend, Maikha Ly under his “Rhelffordd” banner produced a 7 1/2-minute professional standard video on Pete’s Hobby Railway. Using both ground-level and drone overhead footage, Maikha provides some great scenes of the railway from an outsider’s view-point, brought together with an interview commentary by yours truly.

Scenes of Pete’s Hobby Railway also appear in a longer (17-minutes) video by Rhelffordd, covering all the activities that marked the Roundhouse celebrations, including an interview with a now rather elderly gentleman who was transferred to the Roundhouse loco maintenance staff for its opening back in 1947!

Correct video now linked as of March 21, 2023 — my apologies to Maikha

Maikha made the long journey from his home in Adelaide just to shoot the Roundhouse video, with the full co-operation of the Regional Heritage Transport Association which operates the Junee Railway Museum. I had known Maikha sinced he was a member of the NSW School Railway Clubs Association in his junior years and met up with him again at the Official Dinner when I invited him to my place to view Pete’s Hobby Railway in operation.

Image 2022.1877: On the far left of this photo, Maihka Lye can be seen videoing his impressions of operations on Pete’s Hobby Railway before sitting down to record a one-to-one interview with myself. Sunday, 02/10/2022.

Will James

Victorian-based Will James, best known for his monthly on-line reviews covering what’s new in the model railway field, along with a growing number of contemporary videos of model railway exhibitions, etc., also visited Junee for the Roundhouse anniversary celebrations. Will made it a point of visiting PHR on our special operating day and was able to shoot some interesting footage from the public viewing areas outside my front fence. Will has promised to return another time so he can film operations from the inside.

Sit back and enjoy!
